Marc Marquez wins the 2018 Malaysia Grand Prix

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) rode to his ninth win of the 2018 MotoGP season and his 70th career win after taking victory at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The 2018 Champion looked set to lock horns with nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), but the race would end in disaster for ‘The Doctor, after long-time leader Rossi of Italy crashed, as Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) completed the podium at the Sepang International Circuit.

When the lights went out it was Rossi who got a stellar launch from P2, with pole man Zarco slightly sluggish off the line – ‘The Doctor’ got at the Malaysian Motorcycle International Circuit a comfortable holeshot, with Zarco managing to brake late to slot into P2. Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing) was able to leapfrog Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) into P3 at the start, with Marquez making up one position in P6.

Marquez also quickly set about making up for his six-place grid penalty for impeding Italy's Andrea Iannone in qualifying and by the end of the fifth of the 20-lap race, was already behind Rossi.

Rossi was able to extend the gap over Marquez but lost the advantage after the halfway mark of the Malaysia race.

The Spaniard reached second place and was slowly closing the gap on Rossi,
when the Italian fell off his bike as he leaned into a corner.
He got up and continued but by that point victory had already slipped out of his grasp.

The start was not perfect but then I started to take out the riders step-by-step,” said Marquez.
“I started to feel better and better, and I started to see I was catching (Rossi).”

Marc Marquez won the 2018 Grand Prix of Aragon

Marquez changed to a soft rear tyre just before the start of the race and took control in the last three laps, fending off the Ducati rider Dovizioso without much effort to win his home Grand Prix.

"Today, I took a risk, a gamble," Marquez said. "I put the soft rear tyre because during the weekend every time I put the hard I felt okay, but I didn't feel good.

"Sometimes I put the hard to be safe, but today I said, 'okay, I'll take a risk'. I was riding really good, really smooth in the beginning.

"I was able to follow Andrea in a good way, and we were fighting in the end, a great fight. Really top movement at the limit, I was one time in the green, was completely at the limit, but I enjoyed a lot."

The leader now boasts a 72-point cushion over Dovizioso at the top of the standings and doesn't look likely to be caught with only five races remaining, as he continues to search for a third consecutive MotoGP crown.
Marquez now has 246 points in the MotoGP standings, with Dovizioso second on 174 and Yamaha’s Italian veteran Valentino Rossi in third (159).

A monumental Marquez victory on home soil leaves the Honda rider with one hand on the title as the premier class head to Thailand for the first time in just under two weeks in 05 Oct - 07 Oct 2018.

Jorge Lorenzo wins the Grand Prix of Catalan 2018

Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) won the Catalonia Grand Prix after starting from pole position ahead of MotoGP points leader Marc Marquez.

Marquez crossed second followed by Valentino Rossi at the Barcelona-Catalonia Circuit.

Jorge Lorenzo managed to convert his pole position into a win at the 2018 MotoGP Catalan Grand Prix.

Barring the opening lap that was led by Marquez, Lorenzo dominated every lap of the Catalan GP, cruising his way to victory.
It was the Spaniard's second straight victory this season after the Italian GP two weeks ago. Those are his only two victories since joining Ducati in 2017.

The results sheets certainly don’t tell the whole story of the Catalan GP, however. The five-time World Champion made it look easy enough from the outside, but Lorenzo says he had three key obstacles – with the win not quite the lights-to-flag perfection of Mugello.

Lorenzo announced last week that he would leave Ducati at the end of the season and join Honda next year, forming a formidable pairing with Marquez.

By Lap nine, Lorenzo and Marquez started to breakaway from the grid but not without Andrea Dovizioso staying close to the Honda in third. However, Dovizioso's charge ended with a crash on Turn 5 in a yet another DNF for the season. The incident has also brought the both the Ducati riders at a tie in the championship table with 49 points each.

“It’s unbelievable and it shows how things change in this sport,” grins Lorenzo. “Two months ago, two victories with Ducati seemed impossible and now it’s done, and in this way of winning it’s amazing. I never gave up, I just kept saying I needed the right pieces and needed to put it together to be competitive with Ducati, and find my way to be fast and smooth with this bike. We showed you can win with Ducati having a smooth riding style and that’s what makes me most proud.”

The Catalan GP went down with a massive number of crashes and subsequent retirements that wiped out a good chunk of the competition. The Catalan GP marks Lorenzo's 150th podium finish, which puts in an exclusive of riders comprising Valentino Rossi, Giacomo Agostini and Dani Pedrosa.

As he did in 2016 in his last race for Yamaha? Time will tell, and Round 8 appears on the horizon much before then, with MotoGP back on track at the TT Circuit Assen in two weeks at Motul TT Assen in 29 Jun - 01 Jul 2018.

Jorge Lorenzo wins the Italian Grand Prix 2018

Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) clinched his first victory of the 2018 MotoGP season and demonstrated a masterful ride to win the 2018 Italian Grand Prix, and he led a 1-2 for the Ducati Team at Mugello, while championship leader Marc Marquez had a horror race.

Ducati team-mate Andrea Dovizioso took second at Mugello while Valentino Rossi edged third, but a fall saw Marc Marquez's chances of victory end prematurely, while Dani Pedrosa crashed out of the competition.

Jorge Lorenzo led virtually from start to finish to win the Italian Grand Prix.
At the front, however, the story was red. Dovizioso had been holding the gap at just over a second, but Lorenzo just kept pulling the pin. Lap after lap, the ‘Spartan’ got the hammer down and simply pulled away into the distance – six seconds clear over the line, collapsing on the tank to take in the emotions.

The Spanish Jorge, uncatchable and untouchable to cross the line over six seconds clear for his first victory since Valencia 2016 - and his seventh Italian GP win.

Marc Marquez had a horror race at Mugello.
Championship leader Marc Marquez had just passed Rossi for second when he lost control of his bike and ended up on the dirt four laps into the 23-lap race. Marquez finished 16th and failed to score in the Italian race.

Still, Marquez leads Rossi by 23 points, with Maverick Vinales third, 28 points back.Vinales finished eighth the Italian GP.

The ‘Doctor’’s podium finish was another history maker in a milestone day at Mugello as the rider from Tavullia became the first to get more than 5000 premier class points.

Full results of the Italian Grand Prix 2018.

Riders have a fortnight's respite before the MotoGP season resumes at Montmelo for the 2018 Catalunya Grand Prix on June 17, 2018 where Marquez will hope to restore a more substantial lead at the head of the MotoGP standings.
