Lewis Hamilton wins the 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with a superb run from pole position for his 11th victory of the season. He produced a self-confident drive at the season finale to close out 2018 on a high for Mercedes. Sebastian Vettel was in second for Ferrari and Max Verstappen third for Red Bull.

Lewis Hamilton has ended his fifth title-winning Formula One season in style with victory to become the first driver to collect more than 400 points in a season.
Hamilton claimed a personal record-tying 11th season success and 73rd overall.

After a 2018 season in which he has often dominated, Hamilton finished with another performance at Yas Marina in which he was barely threatened by his rivals. Mercedes called his strategy, with an early pit stop, perfectly and Hamilton exploited it to ensure he has completed his fifth championship-winning season with another display of control and patience in the day-to-night race, once again proving he is at the very peak of his powers. He rightly celebrated with some on-track doughnuts.

Having already secured the title with two races to spare, Hamilton finished the 2018 season with 408 points from 21 races. Vettel had 320 and Kimi Raikkonen remained third on 251 although his last race for Ferrari ended early.

The last race of a Formula One legend.

The Formula 1 world champion in 2005 and 2006 Fernando Alonso, competing in his 312th Formula One race, finished outside the top 10. Urged by his team to chase the one point up for grabs for 10th, Alonso replied: "I have 1,800 points."

"Well for me, make it 1,801 points," his race engineer, Will Joseph, replied. He was unable to do so, ending his world-championship winning career in 11th.
"It has been a real honour and privilege racing against Sebastian," Hamilton, 33, said after performing a series of doughnuts on the main straight.

The Spaniard took his titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006 at a time when the sport’s tyre war was at its hottest. The Renaults disposed of all-comers both years, including Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari. Fernando Alonso, took his first F1 win at the 2003 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Alonso ends his career having raced the equivalent of 20% of the way to the moon.

Lewis Hamilton wins the 2018 Formula One World Championship and his fifth F1 title

Lewis Hamilton won his fifth career Formula One championship with a fourth-place finish at the Mexican Grand Prix, making him the joint second most successful driver of all time.A race dominated by Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

The 33-year-old becomes only the third man in history to win five world titles. Mercedes British driver a fourth place in the Mexican Grand Prix enough to see him crowned champion with two races to go of the 2018 season, Lewis Hamilton has now drawn level with Juan Manuel Fangio, and is just two short of Michael Schumacher's Formula One titles record.

Hamilton said: "It is a very strange feeling right now. This was won through a lot of hard work through a lot of races. I am so grateful for all the hard work, for everyone who has been a part of it.
"To complete this, when Fangio has done it with Mercedes, it is an incredible moment.
"It was a horrible race. I got a great start and was working my way up and I really don't know what happened after that. I was just trying to hold on and bring the car home."

Vettel broke off from his post-race interview to congratulate Hamilton, as the two men embraced at the conclusion of a titanic battle.

Vettel said: "Well deserved. Congrats to him and his team. They did a superb job all year, we need to stand there and accept that, we would have loved to hang in there a bit longer but that wasn't the case."

Max Verstappen won the 2018 Mexican Grand Prix

Max Verstappen drove an exemplary race to repeat his 2017 victory at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. But while it was a fifth race win for Verstappen, it was a fifth title win for Lewis Hamilton, the British driver’s fourth place enough to see him crowned champion with two races to go of the 2018 F1 season, becoming only the third ever driver, behind Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher, to claim five Formula One world championships.

With all the focus on the potential crowning of Lewis Hamilton as 2018 World champion, you could have been forgiven for forgetting that there was a race going on and that Max Verstappen took a second win in as many years on Mexican soil.

The champagne and the big trophy in Mexico City went to Max Verstappen.
The Red Bull Dutchman drove faultlessly after taking the lead on the drag down to turn one from teammate polsiter Daniel Ricciardo, never coming under any meaningful pressure from behind as he cruised to the win, and The Dutch national anthem blares out as he stands between the two Ferrari drivers.

“Yeah, it’s amazing,” said Verstappen. “The start was the key. To be honest with you, I didn’t sleep very well last night so I was really determined to win today and luckily we did that. An amazing job by the team as well. We had the right tires available and the car was working really well.

Kimi Raikkonen wins the 2018 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix

Kimi Raikkonen claimed his first Formula 1 win in five years in the United States Grand Prix, as Lewis Hamilton's 2018 world title celebrations were delayed despite a Sebastian Vettel spin at Austin,Texas.

Ferrari kept their title hopes alive during Sunday's Formula 1 USA Grand Prix at Austin, Texas as Kimi Raikkonen won the race and Sebastian Vettel finished in fourth place to stop Lewis Hamilton from claiming his fift F1 championship.

Raikkonen overcame poleman Hamilton at the start and withstood late pressure from Max Verstappen, who started 18th on the grid, and the Mercedes driver to finally win in his second spell with Ferrari and clinch his first success since the 2013 Australian GP with Lotus.

Hamilton went into the Austin race needing to outscore Vettel by eight points to clinch a fifth championship.
The Mercedes man appeared to be on his way to the world title when Vettel spun out early, but Ferrari's tactics proved superior, as Hamilton was forced into a second stop that saw Raikkonen and Max Verstappen move ahead of him. Second place would have given Hamilton the title and he went wheel-to-wheel with Verstappen with three laps to go, but could not make it stick, eventually running off-track at Turn 18.

Vettel got past Valtteri Bottas late and Daniel Ricciardo retired yet again due to engine failure. For Kimi Räikkönen, the win was long overdue, as he had failed to win in his last 113 tries.

Hamilton leads by 69 points with 75 on offer in the final three grands prix, and the championship fight goes to the next round next week in Mexico.

Lewis Hamilton won the 2018 Russian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton win at the Russian Grand Prix will be the only victory in a superlative 2018 season from which he will take no pleasure. His victory, ensured the moment Mercedes employed orders allowing him to pass his teammate Valtteri Bottas, proved an ill-sitting success defined by the decidedly uncelebratory figures of the Mercedes drivers on the podium as well as their team below them.

Valtteri Bottas has fond memories of Sochi, having earned his maiden Grand Prix victory at the Russian venue last year. But the Mercedes driver was asked to play the team game on Sunday, The Finn Bottas made no mistake in holding off his team-mate and Ferrari's Vettel on the opening-lap drag race to turn two. It was, by the Finn's own admission, a result that, whilst great for the team, was difficult to accept...

The world champion is now 50 points clear of Sebastian Vettel by taking his eighth and most controversial victory of the year here at the Sochi Autodrom.Russian.

Bottas, who had controlled the opening half of the race after retaining his lead from pole position, crossed the line in second ahead of Hamilton's championship rival Vettel.
Hamilton now has the equivalent of two victories in his pocket with just five rounds remaining and 125 points left to play for.

“It is definitely a win on my list of wins that I am least proud of,” Hamilton said. “The strangest day I can remember in my career. I want to win the right way. As racing drivers we exist to win; if you tell us we can’t it is like you are taking our life away. I would never wish it on someone else and I would never ask for it ever. I made sure in a meeting that they knew this is not how I want to win.”

1 Lewis Hamilton 306
2 Sebastian Vettel 256
3 Kimi Räikkönen 189
4 Valtteri Bottas 186
5 Max Verstappen 158

Lewis Hamilton won the 2018 Singapore Grand Prix

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton won the Singapore Grand Prix with a strong run from pole position to increase his world championship lead over Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Vettel could manage only third place behind the Red Bull of Max Verstappen. Hamilton’s win for Mercedes had looked against the odds when the weekend began but he leaves the Marina Bay circuit with a 40-point lead over Vettel on this year's Formula 1 World Championship.

With the safety car being deployed in every single Singapore race, it was no surprise that the vehicle had to come out on Lap 1 after an incident between the two Force India (Racing Point) drivers when Sergio Perez claimed he had no where to go and sadly had pushed his team mate Esteban Ocon into the wall, after that from the front, Hamilton ran a controlled and dominant race from the front, with Mercedes managing his strategy superbly on Saturday singapore evening, was helped by the latest in a series of questionable strategy calls from Ferrari.

It dropped Hamilton's title rival Sebastian Vettel from second to third behind Max Verstappen, throwing away a position the German had earned by overtaking the Red Bull driver on the first lap fo the race.

This is the Brit's fourth win in Singapore, his 69th win of his career, and he now leads the championship with 40 points.

Hamilton admitted to losing around two kilos in qualifying, so hot is it in Singapore, but he delivered a lap described as “stardust” by his Mercedes team chief Toto Wolff to take pole. With track position so crucial in Singapore, with overtaking difficult, the world champion made the most of starting at the front.

“I’m spent,” said the Briton, who boosted his title advantage over Ferrari’s Vettel by 25% after the German could only finish third. “That was a tough race. That was a long race. It felt like the longest race of my life. I’m glad it’s over. What a day. What a weekend. I feel super blessed.” said the world champion.

Red Bull took advantage with Verstappen who put in a fine performance for second place and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel third.
Hamilton's team mate Valtteri Bottas came in at P4 and Kimi Raikkonen in fifth.
Daniel Ricciardo was sixth while Fernando Alonso finished seventh, a good result for him.
Carlos Sainz was in eighth, Charles Leclerc ninth and Nico Hulkenberg finished off the points in 10th.

What’s next?
The drivers and teams head to the Black Sea resort of Sochi in two weeks’ time for what will be the fifth Russian Grand Prix in the history of the Formula 1 World Championship in 28 - 30 September 2018. Mercedes have got a perfect record around the Sochi Autodrom – but Sebastian Vettel will be desperate to disrupt that record and try and yank himself back into contention for the 2018 F1 title.

Kimi Raikkonen will leave Ferrari at the end of the 2018 season

Former Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen will leave Ferrari at the end of this season and rejoin Sauber.

The 38-year-old Finn will be replaced at Ferrari by 20-year-old Monaco-born Sauber driver Charles Leclerc, who will partner Sebastian Vettel in the 2019 F1 season.

Raikkonen has spent five years at Ferrari in his second spell at the Italian team.
After eight seasons with Ferrari, and having been the last man to claim a drivers’ title for the Scuderia, it’s been confirmed that Kimi Raikkonen will not be wearing red for the 2019 Formula 1 season, instead returning to the Sauber where he made his Formula 1 debut in 2001.

Kimi Raikkonen is the last Ferrari driver to win the world championship in 2007, before taking a two-year break from F1 in 2010 to compete in the World Rally Championship.

He returned to the sport with Lotus in 2012 and then rejoined Ferrari in 2014. He has 20 grands prix wins and Formula 1 100 podiums in his career to date.

"Signing Raikkonen as our driver represents an important pillar of our project, and brings us closer to our target of making significant progress as a team in the near future," said Sauber team boss Frederic Vasseur.

Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene said: "Kimi's contribution to the team, both as a driver and on account of his human qualities, has been fundamental. He played a decisive role in the team's growth and was, at the same time, always a great team player."

As a World Champion for Scuderia Ferrari, he will always be part of the Team’s history and family. We thank Kimi for all of this and wish him and his family a prosperous future.

Lewis Hamilton Wins the 2018 Italian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton took a thrilling and controversial victory in the Italian Grand Prix following a first-lap clash with title rival Sebastian Vettel and has sensationally prevented ferrari of a victory in Italy, sinking pole-sitter Kimi Raikkonen in an explosive race in Monza.

The Mercedes driver fought a cat-and-mouse battle with Vettel's team-mate Kimi Raikkonen throughout the race and eventually passed him around the outside of the first corner with nine laps to go in the Italian race.

Hamilton and Mercedes not only dashed Ferrari's hopes of a home win after their first front-row lock-out at Monza for 18 years but also extended the Briton's championship lead over Vettel, who finished fourth, to 30 points of the F1 world championship.
That is more than a clear win, with seven races and a total of 175 points remaining in the 2018 season.

Ferrari's home race began to unravel within four corners of the start, as Vettel spun trying to defend against an overtaking move by Hamilton at the second chicane on the first lap.
Hamilton took the outside line and was slightly ahead as they turned into the corner, after the German had had a little look at a possible passing move on Raikkonen in the lead but gave up quickly.

Vettel's car slid into Hamilton's in the middle of the chicane and he spun in front of the pack, his front wing broken which the ferrari mechanics have changed quickly at the box.
The Ferrari driver complained over the radio, but the Formula 1 stewards judged it a racing incident not worthy of further action, and Vettel continued further his pursuit race.

Max Verstappen was slapped with a five-second penalty for colliding with Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas late in the race, plonking him down a spot and away from a podium finish.

It was another disappointing race for Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo, who was sent spiralling midway through the race with an apparent engine failure, spelling disaster for the upcoming Grand Prix in Singapore.

Hamilton: “Today was so difficult. We’ve got a great crowd here (sic), always. The negativity isn’t great but I accept the challenge they send but it’s the British flags that inspire me and the team. It’s such an honour to win here in front of such a crowd.”

Räikkönen: “We had the speed but the tyre went. It’s hard to take but we tried and we had great support. Thank you but sorry for not winning.” said  the driver's after the Italian race.

Mercedes have been dominant here but they clearly no longer have hegemony at the power circuits and may count this as a win against the head that could prove vital, especially with the next round at Singapore, a circuit where they have traditionally struggled and where Ferrari and Red Bull have been strong.

What’s next?
From the high-speed expanses of Monza, we head to the tight confines of the Singapore streets in two weeks' time. This is prime Red Bull territory, but will their agility be enough to overhaul the Mercedes and Ferrari powerhouses? Find out on September 16. 2018.
