Germany will host the football European Championship 2024

Germany has beaten Turkey and has won the right to host the Euro 2024 after a vote by Uefa executive committee.

The two countries made final bid presentations before voting took place in Nyon, Switzerland, beating Turkey in a vote by UEFA's Executive Committee. This is to be the first time Germany will host the tournament since 1988.

The decision means Germany will stage the football European Championship for the first time as a unified country, with West Germany having hosted the 1988 tournament.

Germany had won by a vote of 12-4 with one invalid ballot cast of the UEFA Executive Commitee.

Turkey is yet to host a major international football tournament.
It has seen previous attempts to host the Euros in 2008, 2012 and 2016 fail, as well as the 2020 Summer Olympics. Germany staged the 2006 World Cup.

Euro 2024 is to mark the return of the European Championship to a single-host format, after the pan-European tournament in 2020, which is meant as a celebration of its 60th anniversary. The German city of Munich is to be among the venues to host Euro 2020 matches.
