Real Madrid won the FIFA Club World Cup 2017

Real Madrid became the first team to win back-to-back FIFA Club World Cup titles as Cristiano Ronaldo's second-half free-kick beat Brazilian side Gremio Porto Alegrense.

Real Madrid have won the title after defeating Gremio 1-0 thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo's superb free-kick.

Madrid appeared sluggish against Al Jazira in the semi-final on Wednesday but this was the real thing against Gremio in the final.

Los Blancos enjoyed a lot of possession in the opening stages of the first half, but they could not carve out clear-cut chances against a stubborn Gremio defence.

Eight minutes into the second half, Los Blancos broke the deadlock as Ronaldo found the back of the net with a well-struck superb free-kick.

Zinedine Zidane's side dominated the final from the start until the end but found chances difficult against well-organised opposition.
But Ronaldo got the breakthrough with a well-struck effort from 25 yards

It is a record-equalling third Club World Cup win for Real Madrid, who also triumphed in 2014, matching Barcelona's achievement.

Nevertheless, the score remained 1-0 at the full-time whistle as Real Madrid  successfully defend the Club World Cup.

Real Madrid have made it an historic 2017 with five titles won across the calendar year – a feat never before achieved by this great club.
Real have now won five trophies in 2017, domestically, they won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. In Europe, it was the UEFA Champions League and the Super Cup. And at the end of the year, in Abu Dhabi, four became five with the addition of the FIFA Club World Cup for the third time in four seasons.

It takes their overall total under Zidane to eight since the former France international's appointment in January 2016.

Zinedine Zidane takes his place alongside Luis Molowny as Madrid’s second-most decorated head coach. Only the great Miguel Munoz is ahead of the Frenchman. That is some achievement considering it is not yet two years since he replaced Rafael Benitez at the helm.
